Home made cargo box $10.00

I took an old wood artillary box used for mortors, pried the bottom off about two inches, slid three nylon utility straps from wal-mart through, one in the middle and at each end, re-nailed the bottom back on and strapped it to the grizz. Whole deal cost me maybe ten bucks. I will post picks soon. <B>

And there you have it, Nobody cares. Ahwell, I thought it was a good idea and it has held on good so far.. We will see. I promise to keep everyone updated on the success or failure as the case may be on my wonderful cheap invention.

good luck with your box, i would switch to u bolts though, straps will break especially after getting wet, every single guy that has rode with us that had a soft pack eventually went to hard boxes with u bolts

I bought a couple of those 5 gal buckets from walmart with the seat on it. They have a cooler in them too. I took the cooler out of one and use it to hold my logging tools, choker, files etc...and the other as a cooler. My quad is Mossy Oak and so are the buckets. I just strap them down with bungee cords to my rear basket rack. The seat comes in handy when I stop for a break. Between the buckets, I use an old ammo can to keep my extra chainsaw chains. I tried the Kolpin Bucket hugger and it was poorly made and didn't work as well as my rear basket. Took it back. The ammo can is a good idea....

Hey lookie, I got responces. Well the stun shield was inop at the time, it's fixed now and we are all X26 certified. I took pics of the box I will try to post them. Thanks, The U-bolt Idea is better than my straps, I just wanted something that I could take off without much trouble that would be good for trail / work riding.

Don't mean to hijack the thread but mywifesquad, are those all your rides? And I 'just' thought I had a lot of mtn bikes lying around. Ahhhh, the Honda Odessy, wish they still made it. Those old bike remind me of when I started riding in the 70's on a Honda Z50 then an XR75. You need an SL 70 for your collection, and a Trail 90. I need to find myself a Z50.
WBR, where did you get the ammo box? Sounds like a really simple solution to a common problem. I'm thinking of welding up taller sides on my front and rear racks, but as my welding skills suck, I'm always up for a simple solution. I tried a steel milk crate, but it was too small. tried a large plastic crate used to deliver goods to c-stores, but its too big.
