talked to a salesman today that told me the electric choke makes the bike run rough for a few minutes when it's warm out. he said to bybass this one could turn the key on, wait 3 minutes, and then fire it up. in the winter he said it works great but starts the machine too rich in the summer. he also said the auto is totally different than the snowmobile types in that the belt is always engaged and the slipping is achieved by an internal clutch like a chainsaw's that is bathed in engine oil. can you guys comment on these two items?

1. how does the electric choke on the sport utes work in winter? summer?

2. is the auto trans an Arctic Cat piece or is it Suzuki? how does it work compared to the Polaris type CVT?

I'm looking to replace my Polaris with an Arctic Cat, that's why I ask.

No worry's about the electric choke in the summer. I have never heard of anyone with a problem.

The Arctic Cat tranny is different then Polaris, the Cat is always engaged, unlike a snowmobile. So in theory you will have a lot less slipping. Yamaha is also like this.

Other people here know more about this stuff then I do, so maybe they can help more. Good luck.

 

I agree with Catterman. My 400 has started in 15 to 90 degree weather with just a push of the start button. An electric choke is a bi-metal and whether the electric heater warms it or the ambiant air temp heats it, it is gonna work just fine. Let me guess, the dealer also sells at least one other brand of quad? Bet he tried to talk you into one of the other brands.

Arctic Cats tranny is the most bullet proof of all the CVT trans, that's why they make and use them.

 

just spoke with the guy on the phone Bear, said he has 3 in his family, maybe they all give him choke probs. hard to weed out fact from fiction with these guys, that's why I came here.

I don't own an auto, but I do know that same Arctic Cat auto trans is used on the 400, 500 and 650 H-1.

BTW, my 21 year old daughter owns a 2003 XR100R. The 125 are too tall for her.

 

The V2 AC 650 has a belt drive like a polaris in many ways......the belt slips to take off and stop.
The rest of the AC autos are suzuki belt drives that use a wet clutch for starting and stopping just like the Yamahas.
I think AC tweaks the suzuki belt drive a little......but its still the same in function.

 

I think they're the same as the suzuki clutches , except they added additional cooling on the H1. Best clutch in the business IMO. I've personally seen one 500 with 5000 miles on the original belt.

 

so the V2 must have the kawi engine and trans and the rest are Suzukis....

do you guys think a 5 speed will hold up better for chores and towing, I really don't do any trail riding.
