05 grizzly good deal?
#1
Hi all,
As you can tell I am new to the site and have a few questions purtaining to purcahsing a Grizzly. I have a local 05 Grizzly that I looked at this weekend but have some concerns.
It only has 38 hrs and 290 miles on the bike and does looked clean but it didn't start when I got there. He told me he bought it in Dec 04 but since moved and it has been sitting in his garage for the last 6 months (it was his wifes who is about 55 and only used it to run dogs on their 200 acre farm...so he says). Anyhow the filter was soaked in gas and oil which could explain it not starting but I am do not know enough about these to know. All of the electronics looked normal and it sounded like it wanted to turn over but just wouldn't.
It has the ITP rims with 589's which are 27's as well and they came on it as he said it is a limited edition one. He also has a 48 inch manual plow that has never seen the snow and he paid 525.00 for. He is only asking $5,500 for it but my main concern was the bike not starting. It also had a low front right tire but that could just be from sitting for so long but he will have that checked and fixed if it does have a hole.
Am I being to cautious or should i just take it because of the deal and worry about these things later?
Thanks for any help anyone can provide and sorry if this is to basic of a question for the forums but I'm a newbie...

That seems to be a good deal.Remove the air cleaner and see if it starts. If it hasn't been run properly over a period of time the carb could be gummed up with bad gas.Visually inspect the skid plates for marks. They mark very easily and tell a good story of abuse. The tires are after market.I've never heard of a SE coming with ITP's.All in all that sound like a good deal if you can get it running.

I would want to know why the air filter is soaked with gas and oil. I have an 05 grizz, I only have about 800 miles on it but I've done my best to beat the hec out of the machine. I've never had gas or oil on my airfilter.
ask if you can take it to a Yamaha dealer to have it checked out.

The gas on the filter is from trying to start it, and pumping the throttle... Remove the filter, spray a little starter fluid or carb cleaner in the air intake, and try to start it. Drain the gas, change the spark plug. Sounds like a good deal.

I probably should have jumped on it when I had the chance but the not starting issue scared me. He didn't use it for 6 months and was cranking on it pretty hard to get it started so that could be where the gas etc came from. Anyhow i looked on saturday and called monday to buy and it was gone... I am back to square one...thanks all for the replies
