I have been out of 4-wheelers for about 5 years but am looking to get back into it. My long time riding buddy has a 700 Sportsman. What 4x4 can I get that will keep up with him? The cheaper the option the better (as long as reliability doesn't sacrifice!). Other makers?

Yep, for the $ saved throw a CDI, clutch spring, and some tires and wheels to secure the victory.

The P700 is also a good bike for more $$$$.

If you are talking for mudding, IRS is best but just make sure it has a LOW range and enough power to turn whatever tire you put on.

Used anything 500 cc up would do the trick but if your talking speed wise you will need a 500 cc quad min.

The newer ones that are cheaper i would go with the KQ 700 efi. Or the new IRS 650 BF or Bomb. (other than Polaris quads that I prefer anyways).

With the BF 650 or the KQ 700 he'd have to keep up with you, you could keep up with him a sp 500 or Vinson 500, easily.

I am with curls and brute 23, The Brute Force 650 Solid axle is the best buy on the market and can out run a Sp700 any day. Brute 650 SRA quads are great machines with tons of after market goodies available since its realy a Prairie 650/700 with new plastic and the famous 650 Kawi v-twin from the earlier 2002-2003 model years of the prairie and it is also the same motor the Artic cat 650 v2 uses. The brute 650 SRA has a list price of 6599.00 with negociated prices ranging from 5500.00 to 6000.00 depending on kawi promos and your own negociation skills.

The Prairie 650/700s and brute Force 650 have won more awards and shootouts in the media than any other machine that I can think of. The brute 650 SRA won best in class in several publications last year and best in the under 7000.00 price range comparisons as well it should it was ATV of the year and shootout winner for several years in a row when it was dressed in the original praire plastic. The fun factor is off the chart with these bad boys. It may not be what you are looking for I don't know, but I realy think its worth at least a close look and for sure a test ride.
