New Member with Traxter ?'s

Hello everyone. I have exhausted the search feature with no results so I thought I would post.
I have a 2000 model traxter with a couple of small issues. Hopefully someone can help me out. First the rear tail light stays on when the key is turned on (both lights on and off position). Also isn't it suppose to have a brake light. The light just stays bright all the time and nothing changes when the brakes are applied. Second, the speedo and digital display does not work. It lights up and you can see a number on the display for one second when the key is turned on but then disappears. Can anyone give me some advise as to fixing these problems. Oh, I found that someone added a trailer harness by tapping into the taillight leads and the battery. Thanks in advance.

Yes the old traxter models have a brake light. Did you try changing the bulb, or your brake light swtch might be bad. As for your display issues, you need to find the fuse and check it. Your owners manual should list all the fuse locations. I only owned a traxter for two months before dumping it for a different brand so I hope this helps...

Thanks for the reply! I have ordered a service manual so I will be able to look up these locations but do you or anyone know where the fuses are? Also where is the brake light switch? Thanks again

The electrical system on the Traxter is deisgned to turn on the brake/tail light and instrument lights when the key is turned. The lights turn off automatically after 10 minutes. The fuse box (which has a black cover) is located under the seat on the drivers left-hand side above the fuel switch and is fairly easy to access. Personally I would disconnect the wiring the other person did because it does not sound like it is wired properly. Go on to Ebay and buy a CD manual for $10. It contains exploded diagrams, part numbers and all the maintenance information. Well worth the investment.

I read in troubleshooting tips for Traxter that there is a sensor on back of transmisson that can get oil or water on it and short things out intermittently. I have an '05 Traxter 500 and I tried just wiping oil off of connector and contacts on sensor and it works better. They say to use electrical contact cleaner to remove oil, I haven't tried this yet but it's worth a shot
