Best thing to to is check the compression, I belive it should be around 160psi for a good motor unless the head was milled then it will be higher. Also ride it and see how weak it seems.

It's not 160psi. The modded ones might get 160.
I think stock is 120psi at sea level, mine has 80 and still runs fine (actually it reaches easily 80 and gets up slowly to 100...kinda weird).
But you might a good compression and a destroyed engine (like scratched sleeves, bent rods(slightly)...

Zorro is right...160 is way high for a stock motor.
You should see between 120 and 130 with the stock head.

Zorro: 80lbs? That seems really low...I have not seen a banshee yet that wants to run good on less than 90...But I could be wrong. Does it still feal strong? I know mine would not even start when it got to 80 lbs.

good luck... If its not running 100% dont ride it, my banshee wanted to stall or scream, it would not idle, and then it blew up..

Actually it climbed up to 100psi (elevation is ...a bit more than Montreal...dunno exactly), but the way it reached 100 is wierd. In 3-4 kicks, it reached 80psi, then slowly (10 more kicks) reached 100psi, and decreased (I would say the gauge is guilty of air leaking). It works fine, tops out at more than 70 mph (with full stock pipes) and spins the tires whenever I want (even when I don't want to ). I'll leave it the way it is, and see...
How often do you guys change top end? It's a 98 and I don't think it has ever been changed.
