Go with a clamp-on filter kit. Either Noss Machine, or Pro-Flow. They have a billet aluminum adapter that screws onto your airbox, and eliminates the drop-in filter design that can let dirt slip past. The Noss is about $10 cheaper and the same quality, so i'd go with that. Both are available with a K&N or UNI filter. Go with the K&N unless you ride in dusty conditions frequently, i've heard complaints about the K&N not getting all the real fine particles.

thanks recon for the help by going with this setup do i have to use airbox vents? is the uni better in dusty conditions? my boy really enjoys passing me and seeing me in a dust cloud.

Well, the airbox depends on if you ride in wet conditions a lot. You could completely remove the airbox lid with this setup, and get maximum gain from it, but if the filter is going to get muddy constantly that's not the best thing to do. In that case the airbox vents would be a better choice. Just an occasional sprinkle of mud or water won't hurt it, and you can get an outerwear to waterproof the filter, but if you frequently ride in water you might just want to leave the airbox stock.
The UNI is supposed to be better in dusty contitions because it has a sticky oil (It makes a mess) to hold the dirt in, and it can hold more dust and dirt before it needs cleaned. The downside of the uni is that it's more difficult, messy, and time consuming to clean compared to the K&N.
