MTV giving the enemy's Ammo to cancel Sport quads!!
#1
I just got done watching Music Television(MTV) Sports and Music Festival(SMF). I have to say they have done a realy stupid thing for our sport now. They had a group of past SMF winners from different sports(snowboarders, BMXers) combined in a quad race. For starters, they should have set these guys and girls up on a easier quad, not the Raptor and Banshee. In the first heat one guy jumps from one quad on to the back of another persons quad so he abandons the vehicle while its still running, and he is riding double during a race. Then in the second heat a guy comes of a jump smashes into his bars and then looses his foot under the tire and wound up breaking his leg. Then in the final round, they have the 2 that were riding double ride together for the full race, thankfully neither of them got hurt but you would think even MTV would take into consideration some things are just not as funny as they think. I thought it would be cool that MTV was involving quads, but if they were gonna screw with the sport that much I think they could have left it alone.

I agree with you on the fact that mtv was wrong for showing/allowing them to ride double. however, you can say the same thing about letting the contestants participate in some events that they had. re:skateboarding, bmxing on a track, mxing on a track and whatever else they did. when they got hurt, it was because they were trying an activity that has a risk factor. sure they given some instructions, but you can't be expected to skate on a half pipe like a pro just watching.
as far as giving them high performance quads, I'm pretty sure they had some kind of safety instruction on how to ride. probally some of the "racers" have had prior expierence on a quad, because they did not look like a person who is just learning how to ride. I bet you know one when you see tham on a quad. you can't blame yamaha. they had all of their sport quads availible. I recall seeing a warrior, a banshee, and a pack of raptors. great marketing by yamaha to have their quads and bikes on display. and if you were sponsoring would'nt you want your newest and most sought after product being the center of attention? you have to admit that mtv did it somewhat right and covered their ***. they were on a closed race track, they had several emts on hand, they had spotters on the track, and all the riders were properly equiped. imagine the train wreck mtv could have caused. I'm just greatful that it wasn't some garbage like the quad wars crap you see on tnn. maybe this could lead to something like rock and jock celebrity quad racing. as far as the enemy goes, sometimes we ourselves are helping their cause. we need to voice our opinions and fight for our causeat all times. not only when someone puts the noose around our neck.
