Is the ltr 450 the bike to buy

i really wanted to buy a ltr but am hearing of the frames breaking where the swing arm attaches and that they are under powered is this true or are people trying just to put me off your help wanted

Both are untrue.
The rear mount breaking was a maintenance issue. I've only heard of 2 cases. I don't see it an issue as Gust and JJ pound the living crap out of them constantly.
Underpowered to what? People compare the power to what the speculation was and I guess you could say it's underpowered compared to that, but this thing is side by side with the other 450's. Add a $40 cherry bomb, remove the airbox lid, and take out the pea-shooter and you +8-10HP.
Of course this is the Suzuki Section and all you will hear from here is goodness.

lisscullen - it really depends on what you are looking for in a quad. If you want be able to take a quad from the showroom to a track and be competive right off the LTR is in my opinion the best at this time.
If you are only looking for fun and reliable, then a 400 that is bullet proof and don't see having to put much into it to keep it going for several years down the road the Honda 400ex or Suzuki Z400 may suit you better.
If you want more power then the YFZ450 or Honda 450R may be a better fit.
The LTR450 was designed to be a showroom to track quad. Don't get me wrong, it's heck of fun and up till now the motor and frame has been reliable on the race circut. As the others said, I was a bit hesitant about buying a first year quad myself. But so far so good.
The issues with the frame and being underpowered I think are not true. The frame thing sounds like someone took a new one and wanted to jump the crap out of it without dialing in the suspension (which can be done with a turn of a screw) prior to jumping. I wonder if those quads bent their axels??? I'd be interested in that...
I was at my local dealer on Sunday and a guy was brining in a 1 week old LTR because of a burnt clutch already.... doesn't make it a factory problem or flaw..... the guy turned out had never owned a quad before, put paddels on his, hit the dunes hard.... smoked the clutch.... that'l teach him to ride the clutch that much.... no matter. the dealer will fix it for him at no cost they said....

Set up like it is with the stock width and small tires, it is NOT the quad to have for trail bashing. s9195 has it right though. For local level mx and such, the Zuk will need the least setup to be competitive and is going to be a popular choice.

The frame problem is a real one. I hear TC did alot of work to the motor.
Dunk broke his frame virtually immediately.
To look at the problem area, it looks well built so most feel there is a linkage/geometry design problem.
