Default 2000 AC500 Manual Shift selectable 4x4???

I did a search an got no clear answer on this question. I know for a fact that the 2000 model 500 manual didn't have selectable 4 wheel drive. I was wondering if there was ever a successful mod or write up that would allow me to make it selectable 4 wheel drive. I saw 1 post mentioning switching in a King Quad diff, but I didn't see any mention of what tear KQ to get the parts off of??? Any help would be great.

I think it is a standard part from your cat dealer. Cost about $100.

naw, the part you're thinking of is for the 250 and 300 models. Thanks for the reply though

RyanRX7,

I think I have seen a front diff locker made by Warn on an old king Quad which should work as a diff lock on your AC.

The 4 wheel selection lever made for the 250/300 may work if you have the part that it hooks to already on your front diff. It disengages the front dif totally.

I guess since there are similarities between the King Quad and AC 500 you could always swap out the diff housing or the diff all together.

hope this helps
SJ

I am pretty sure it will work, my dad has a 2000 500 4x4 auto and it can be taken in and out of four wheel drive. Maybe try going to the cat dealer and seeing what part # it is on the auto, and then add that to your manual. Should be the same I would think.

Yup, I had the same idea......but the front diff is different in the auto. Therefore the piece that the 4 wheel select handle on an auto would hook to isn't there. The diff also attaches differently to the drive output. The auto uses a universal joint, the manual doesn't. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Upon fruther research I could swap out the front diff and purchase the selector handle. But there is a piece I found the auto to have as well that I do not. They call it a "secondary gear shift assembly" it looks like a little plunger button. Anybody with an auto or 2001 model manual know what this is or what it does? I found that this part is exclusive to the models with selectable 4 wheel drive, I just don't understand where it is located on those models or what it does. Thanks
