Default King vs. Outlander 800

I would use for trail riding (sometimes 2 up - not interested in the 2up machines) which would often include mud. I would also use for plowing snow.

Can anyone give me some real world experience on how these machines compare - reliability, handling, mud? How is the axle/cv strength on these machines? Which one has the better belt drive system? Which one has the better belt intake/exhaust set up?

What about the front differentials - seems to be, aside from rock crawling, the visco lock could be better. There's no need to stop when you start to get stuck - just wait for the system to lock up as you go. It also kicks in at any speed. Does the King's locker work in high range?

I know the Outtie is way more powerful.

Thanks.

I don't know if this will help but they just did an article in the April '06 issue of ATV 4-Wheel Action Mag. The Outtie won in there opinion.

Thanks. Did they address any of the above questions? (they don't sell the magazine where I'm at so I can't buy it)

You must come to a complete stop before putting the 800 in four wheel drive per the Operators Guide.

The 4x4 can be engaged on the fly as long as you take the load off the front differential meaning you should coast for a split second so it can engage, I have been doing this for three years now with no problems.

That's good to know, but the book says to stop, so I stop. What you say makes sense but I can see why Bomb says stop.

I own both I will say the Outty is a monster And the King is a very underated machine.I like the King the best for most riding,if I want brute power I ride the Outty. The King is alot better in the tight stuff, and a better trail cruiser. The Outty just loves to be treated like a red headed step child. So if you just want a VERY good trail machine get the King if you want to pick on sport quads buy the Outty.I dont ride mud so I cant tell you that one

They are. When they are made in Mexico the price might come down a little. When I am 70 I don't want to look back and wish I had spent the bucks for the best.
