650 V2 low top speed

Well for the first time since I purchased my big cat I was able to ring it out a little on some long trails. On an old railroad bed nearby which is mostly sand and mud I could only get 53 out of it in high, but 46 in low. I know the AC is geared higher than the Prairie but it did seem like it was realy straining at 53. The machine only has 50 miles on it and I have been trying to break it in agresively, but in the tight stuff real close to my house I really cannot keep it pegged for more than a few seconds. This is the first time I have been able to hold it wide open for any legth of time.
Is this the norm?
I had to send my Dynatec CDI back as it failed out of the box so it is dead stock at the moment, I have not even installed my new primary and secondary springs yet.
It really seems like it needs more air and fuel.

Make sure you check your speed with a GPS. Stock speedo can be waaaaayyyyyy off. My '06 was 20% positive so my dealer X-changed it for a new one which I have not yet tried. The factory did not want to do it, but my dealer backed me and it was done.
Just seems to me in this day and age the speedo/odometers/fuel could be a lot closer to truth. In any event, you may be going faster than the speedo indicates.

Yes, speed was still slowly climbing, I did not want to leave it pegged too long as the motor is still being broken in. What was the mileage on your machines when you tried top speed?

By the way these runs were with 27" mud lites, It did 60 with the stockes on pavement, still seems a little slow to me. I need this machine to do 60 in dirt.

I don't recall how many miles I had on mine when I first topped it out, but it probably wasn't much more than 50. Mine is pretty quick to 60, the last 5 mph takes a little bit. The tires will lower your top speed, they are heavier, wider, and have a more aggressive tread with will increase drag. You may not have much of a problem that isn't explained by the tires.

I did notice a ton of heat around the air cleaner box(under the glove compartment), so much so I said to myself I cannot snorkle the intake in that area like the VDI kit is for 04 AC650. I would assume that is coming from the belt housing exaust, if the belt/clutches are running hot it seems like they must be running very inneficiently and therfore lowering the top speed. Just a thought, or are they all like that?

Sammy, as a side question, how did you know your Dynatec had failed? Obviously you'd know if your bike wouldn't run, but others have also reported a failure with one of these units, saying the bike ran but there was no improvement after installation. I'm just wondering if your bike is running, how can you tell the unit is not doing what it is suppose to do?
