AWD question

WHEN awd button is engaged[SPORTSMAN 700] the front differential engages when the rear wheel slips. How long does it stay engaged/ Does it disengage as soon as the rear wheel stops slipping? If for example when climbing a steep rock and the rear wheel slips will the front wheels engage and stay engaged until they get in a freewheel mode. Local dealer did a lot of mumbling when I asked him. Thanks JIM

The front wheels should unlock as soon as the rear tires regain traction (as soon as all four wheels are going the same speed). If it doesn't, you either need a fluid change or front end service. (Fluid change fixes it 90% of the time). On some 04's, there was a recall on the front diff where something went bad and it didn't disengage when it should, not sure though.
In short, it should disengage as soon as you regain traction.
