raptor 700 oil filter blues
#1
I have an 06 raptor 700, got in it Nov. I've been riding the crap out of it and have had to change oil twice already, a third oil change is coming soon. with the internal oil filter, unscrewing and screwing those three bolts every 20 ride hours is worring me. How long before the threads strip and I have to get a new case? Do I really need to change the filter every time I change oil? both times i changed the oil so far (every 20 hours) it's needed it. help out please. thanks.

I have changed a oil a few times in my 10+ years working on all different kinds of ATVS. I had a 99 400EX that i musta changed the oil a hundred times in. I have also changed the oil in these 700's. These bolts are meant to be in and out of the quad alot. One thing to keep in mind is to not be in a hurry when taking them out and putting them back in. I have not yet (knock on wood) had to tap a drain plug or oil filter lid bolt holes because I broke the bolts off or the threads got damaged. However, if you do happen to damage the threads this could probably be repaired without replacing a case half.

I got my 700 in Sept and have done 3 oil changes, one filter change.
You have nothing to worry about with the threads if the bolts are clean and you start them by hand. Start them with an impact gun and your asking for it!!!!!!!

In all my atvs I have had I change the oil every 50 hours then change the filter ever 100 hours and I have never had a problem. I wouldnt bother changing it every 20 hours I think that is over kill.
