Default 1996 xplorer bogging with new 27 inch tires

I have a stock 96 xplorer 400 4x4. I put ITP mudlite 27 inch tires on the rear last year. Ever since then the atv has no power. i cannot spin the tires, in the woods i need to put it into low gear just to get up a hill. Stock tire size is 25 12 10. The new ones are 27 12 10. Do i need to change clutching at all? If so, how? and can some one reccomend a cheap fix. I only take this thing in the woods hunting and mud bogging around. I never go fast down roads etc.. I need low end power. Thanks for the helping out a brand new forum member.

You need a primary spring that will increase the RPM's at engagement, such as the Polaris White spring. Others that know more about specific springs should chime in with reccomendations.

You only put them on the rear? You have stock 25" tires in the front? That would cause a serious bind in 4wd.

i was told by a polaris mechanic that this would be ok. maybe he is wrong. had them on for this fall and didn't seem to have any problems. what should i be looking for?

About clutching can anyone reccomend a setup that will work for me. I am thinking from what i have read that a white primary spring might be a good solve.

HAving 27" on rear and 25" on front is going to tear up the quad. The dealer is full of crap. DO NOT drive in 4wd. That is very bad. Now if you want to run bigger tires you need a clutch kit for bigger tires. Just changing the spring wont do much. You have to change the weights, front spring, rear spring and helix to move the bigger tires.

I went from stock 22r/23f tires on an 01 scrambler to 26r/27f mud lites and did notice some change in acceleration and whole shot. I changed the drive sprocket from a 13 to a 12 tooth and that helped get it back to close to original performance. Your situation sounds to me like some other problem. Have you tried a new belt?
