i want to get a good winch for my gen 6 sportsman but i do not want to pay $500.00 that just seems so expensive!!!! dose anyone have an opinion on other lower priced winches and if there is a way to get the wiring so i can plug it into the pre-wired harness, yes i am lazy but anyone who has delt with diassembling there wheeler to put one of these in knows its not good times!! any help would be awsome!!

 

I like the Warn winches. I got my winch from the dealer for 383. I can ask what they charge for a 06 500 winch. I would venture to bet it be the same cost unles you bike in not pre-wired.

 

I bought a new warn 3000 on ebay for 350.00, including shipping. This was about a year ago, and i mounted it on the back of my 05 800.

 

I bought a Warn 3.0 online, non-Polaris....Had to do some modification to get it wired up. At the time, the Polaris 3.0 was over $600!! I think after all was said & done, (had to buy a mount -- non-Polaris ones are considered universal & won't come with one -- and the machine was so new that a company had to fabricate one for $70) I still paid over 5 bills.

But this was back in Jan.'05

 

Again I bought a mount of off ebay for $35.00, and this was in Jan or Feb of 05. I can't remember the name of the mount, but would be glad to look it up when I get home tonight if anyone needs it.

 

I got a warn 2.5ci off of ebay, new in box for 270 after shipping, and a mount from online as well for 35 a month ago.
The winch was a "buy it now" price to....im to impatient to bid on stuff.
Install was easy, hardest part was finding the pre-wired wires.
Oh and by the way you can buy the winch panel now, so you dont have to cut yours.

 

Just remember when looking for a winch consider what it comes with. For example, does it come with a roller fairlead $35.00, a mini rocker switch with handlebar mounting, wireless remote, and mounting plate$30.00-$50.00. When it comes down to it the polaris (WARN) 2500# with mini rocker, mount, roller fairlead, being prewired for a polaris, and the WARN name and reputation are worth the $479.99.

I'm not nocking the other barands such as Ramsey, Mile-Marker, Superwinch or the others. All are great, strong winches with great features, but the Polaris, and the way they mount up in the plastic, makes them an easy winch to install on your own.
