Default Am I running too cold?

I just installed a PWR radiator on the 730 and I use Alba's carbon fiber shrouds, I installed an ESR temp. guage after the PWR install so I have no baseline but my 730 now runs no hotter than 165, she'll climb into the 200's if idling but even when I run the snot out of her she never gets over 165, is this going to be a bad thing? Any harm in running this cool?

I ran mine about 165 for years... But I never let it go into the 200 that seems dangerous to me.

I think 170-175 is the sweet spot.

Thanks man, I feel better now. By the way, those PWR radiators are pretty darn nice if anybody is considering getting one, perfect fit and sure keeps things cool.

On all my motors ive ran, I take out the thermostat and cut out the brass piece and then re install thermostat. Seems to run real cool like that but make sure you bleed it good. I also run my fan on a toggle switch so when The bike makes a BUNCH of passes back to back I can keep it near 175.

Okey guys, help me learn about atv engine temps.
When I had my stock car with about 450 hp, my engine builder recomended running at about 210 to 220 degrees for the best burning of the mixture in the cylinder (even nascar runs about this temp). Is a built atv that much different? If so, then why?

I think the red (dummy) light on our Ds comes on at around 210 for overheat.. Around that area. By then its too late. I think the recomended operating temp is about 175. I might be off a few points.

An engine is an engine is an engine. It dosen't know it it's a Briggs or a Rodeck. So no, they arn't different. If you have a cold engine your loosing HP. The heat that is inside of the engine is what pushes the piston down. If you have your engine set too cold then the water is drawing the heat (energy) out of the combustion chamber. I set our circle track engines at 180. Drag engines can go to about 205 to 210. I don't like getting the circle track engine that hot because you can get into traffic and start loosing water. I try to stay out of traffic when I drag race.
I never did like to run a cold engine, and I really don't like hammering on a cold engine.
Be sure to check the oil a lot if you run this thing that cold.

According to the manual: The thermostat opens at 185* and closes at 167*. The fan turns on at 221* and turns off at 205*
