Newbie, with a few questions(1994 Warrior)
#1
Hi, I just picked up a 1994 Warrior for a pretty cheap, have a few questions.
Does anybody have any tips on how to restore somewhat faded plastic?
Also it needs a swingarm bearing, does anyone know the bearing number required?
When the starter disengages, it makes sort of clunking sound, what could this be?
Any things I should watch out for on this bike?
Where can a guy find aftermarket or OEM decal kits for these bikes?
Thanks, J

and
www.denniskirk.com
are your friends...
the faded plastic... can't be fixed.. just armor all the crap out of it... and also... i have that clunking sound too.. i think it is the starter gear gonig bad... and you should definetely get rid of the parking brake( if not removed already) and be easy on the clutch.. the only adjustment is on the perch

There is a product to help faded plastic, you have to sand then apply the product, Try Ironpony.com or magicracing.com, ebay is a great source for your bearings and aftermarket decal kits.

ebay has a TON of used/new fenders pretty reasonable, or Maier aftermarket, or Fullbore. You can get lots of aftermarket decal kits, check out a Dirtwheels mag, they have lots of vendors. Your starter has a one-way clutch in it, that clunk sounds like it may be going bad, replace it before it leaves you stuck or causes any damage.Swingarm bearings come in a kit, you can find them in any catalog or aftermarket seller, or even on ebay,or last resort, the dealer ( much more expensive)
The Warrior is a rock solid quad, it will take a real beating and keep on running. I've always thought it should have come stock with an oil cooler, just to help keep engine temps in control when it is run hard, but it is easy enough to add one on, if you feel like it. Just keep the valves set, change the oil and clean the air filter (or better yet, dump that crappy filter set up for a clamp on adapter,to keep dirt out better) and it will run a very long time.

TIP- don't buy a starter thinking that will fix your "clunking sound". It is probably the starter gear, as Speedy2222 said. My starter did go out and I HOPED that would do it but it didn't. I had no spark another time and had to replace a bad ignition coil, that did not fix the no spark though. Then was told to replace the CDI. That wasn't it either, it was the pickup coil in the stator that was bad ($40 on ebay) yamaha doesn't sell the pickup coil seperate from the stator (rip-off). Also I had trouble with getting into neutral but that seems to be accepted with the Warrior. Otherwise a great quad fo the money. I sold mine though and got a Raptor 660!
