Leaned out my daughters pred 50 now it won't start
#1
I did what most everyone says to give the little monster some more power. The needle was in the 3rd position and I moved the circle clip one ring torwards the top of the needle. Now the pred won't stay running. It turns over and starts running at a real low idle, then I give it gas and it starts to rev up and dies....maybe it is flooded...any suggestions. I have never changed the plug...should I clean it up we have had the pred for about 1.5 years.

If you leaned it out and it won't run, then move the clip back. Running lean means that you are not getting enough gas. If it is too lean, it won't run properly. You could hurt your engine. Also, change your plug. When you take your old plug out, check your plug color. That will tell you how lean/rich your machine is running. If the tip is white, you are running way too lean, if it is real black, you are running too rich. The plug should be a nice peanutbutter brown color.
The best way to gain more power is to get a new performance pipe and cdi box.

Ya I feel like a real donkey. I had folded down the air box vent to get to the carb from the side and left it there...so the bike wasn't getting enough air.
How long do I need to run it before I can check the color of the plug? It was black before I leaned it out.
Where do you buy pipes for these? I have some reeds and a CDI enroute.

Regarding your plug color: It doesn't take a long ride to read a plug. Maybe run it up and down your road a few times. If you cannot get your plug that perfect "peanutbutter brown" color, it's better to run it a little richer (on the dark side) then leaner. The worst that could happen (if you run it rich) is that you might foul a plug, but you would have to run it REAL rich to foul it in a short amount of time.
As far as where to purchase a pipe, I got my daughters from Hetrick Racing, but I don't know if they carry a pipe for a 50 - you might want to contact them. www.hetrickracing.com
Also, I don't know if you are aware of it or not, but there is another forum you might be interested in. It is specifically for predator owners. They have a section specifically for the youth quads too. The web address is: www.predatorowners.com check it out, I find it very helpful. You will find more answers (pertaining to your predator) there.
