03 Predator or 660R
#1
I am selling my 03 Polaris 400 Trailblazer and i am going to buy another quad.My buddy has and 03 predator with weisco piston and nerfs and i think that is it.It is in great condition and was only raced Mx a few times.Or a guy up the road has an 04 raptor 660 with 15 hrs on rebuild,Pipe,Jet kit,Filter and i think that is it.It also is in great condition. My buddy said about $3000 for the predator and the guy up the road said $2500 for the raptor.Which should i get.Ive rode a raptor but havent had a chance to ride a predator. He said to come out and ride the preddy. Also im 5'10, 160 pds and i want it for mostly trails and long steep hills and once in a while to go to some friends MX tracks. Thanks for any help,Jeff

I would go with the pred. I have one as you can see, and it is very impressive. I have never ridden a raptor so I can only go by what I have read. But I know the pred has alot to offer and it mx's pretty decent and climbs great. But either would be good. RUSS

Mine is a 03 as well. I bought it towards last summer from the original owner and it has had no problems with the tranny since new, and it works perfect. Just like anything new they have some bugs here and there with some. The pred has alot of factory upgrades but check the ball joints out good because when I bought mine it needed a new one on the left lower a arm. The sterring had a little bit of play but no biggy.

This is a hard question....Personnaly, I wouldnt go with the predator just because its a 2003,the first year as alot of problems. The raptor is newer and already as a pipe, jet, filter so I say GO RAPTOR!!!!!even if I really like the predator. If you really want a predator,go with the 2004 and up.

I've ridden both an 04 stock Predator and an 04 Raptor, when it was stock and after the installation of a pipe and long travel A-arms and wheel spacers. My favorite is the Raptor (even when it was stock)!
While both have a nice ride to them, you can't beat the Yamaha suspension. Like butter. As far as power both are good, but the Raptor tends to want to get up and go a bit faster then the Predator. The front end tends to come up in 1st and 2nd if you're not careful. The Predator was easier in those lower gears. Both were squirrely in 5th on a long straight away, until after the Raptor was modded, then it was rock solid.
I've ridden them on both trails and dunes - and it's Rappy all the way!

prefer the pred personally, (hence having bought one myself) also, if he's had it since '03 and it hasn't had tranny issues i'm gonna bet it won't. i think the '03's tranny problems developed within a few months of sale, if they were going to at all. (in my experience anyway) ride w/ a guy who's got an '03, runs ike a clock. still no reverse would kinda suck, but the suspension i think would make up for it, it's give and take either way, you'll be happy no matter which you choose
