Outty 800 ECU Reprogramming
#1
Being a die hard Ski-Doo rider, I have a serious hard on for an Outlander 800. Just can't justify the $$$ right now...
Anyway, I heard the Outty is putting out about 64 hp whis is awesome but still alot less than the 85 hp sled that uses the same motor. I've also heard rumors that if you're tight with your dealer he can reprogram the ECU (MPEM?) on the Outty and VOILA! 20 more ponies! Has anyone else heard this orhad it done?

I don't believe they use the same engine. Isn't the 800 on the sled a side by side vs. the 80 degree v twin? Even if you could do it, That would put a veto stamp on your warranty from the dealer so you would have to be really tight with your dealer!

No, its the same engine. Will debut in several '07 Ski-Doo models. Engine can handle the extra HP without any problems. I know it's hard to believe, but the Outty 800 is seriously de-tuned.

Sleadhead.. Wait till you ride one.. You may have a wet spot in your pants and a limp one Its pretty dam fun. an extra 15 ponies on it would be insaine it already shoots up hills like nothin else. raced the 800 against a poo 700 efi and made it was about liek a warrior compared to a raptor. just blew the tires off the Poo.

ohh.. and i dunno about the extra 20 ponies just from the ECU wouldnt it be runnin super lean factory then? you need to open up the air intake and let some more exhaust out and get a programer and you prolly get somepin to that tune outta it.

Here is a link to the 800 sled motor specs, the 80 degree twin is 65hp in the sled not 85. I think the 2 smoke 800 is something like 150hp and its a parallel twin. There is only 3 HP differnce in the 4 stroke 80* v-twin used in the quad VS the sled. The 1000cc V twin 4 stroke is 81 hp That is the parent motor that the 800 quad motor came from. You are going to need allot more than a program to get a 20+% power gain.

Nope. The V 800 and V 1000 are different engines entirely. BRP is dropping the V 1000 for MY 07 for the lighter 800 thats used in the Outty. I am sure of this. Check the April issue of ATV Rider that has the big bore shootouts. The Outty is voted #1 and in the write up they make mention of reprograming the computer.

What is your source for the info that leads you to beleeve the 80 degree v-1000 is not the same basic design as the Outy's 800, the motor in the 2007 sled you mentioned has been in a euro sled for a couple of years now. Its not really new, just new to the US and Canada. You can pull the specs on the Euro version of 800 and the New US 800 and they are a match bore, stroke, HP ect, ect. If you want to believe there is a 35% power gain in the programing of a normal asperated motor that your peragative but I am telling you that would = 14hp-15hp gain on the RWHP numbers. Thats not going to happen without going into the internals of the motor or spraying it. The weight of the v-1000 and the v-800 would not likely change much at all. Most likely 10 pounds or less and that would include the possabilty of a larger radiator. 10 pounds or less vs a rated 16hp differential, there has got to be some other reason for the change like possably emmisions or something
