They will have to polish the aluminum first anyways before the part is chromed. If you go the chrome route just be sure your boots do not have the steel toe plates since chromed aluminum is not near as tough as chromed steel. Trust me on this

I do like the aluminum better, but if you get them chrome plated, realize that sometimes that chrome can flake off of the aluminum. I suppose it depends on the quality.

I'm also interested in this. I'm redoing the DS & want some bling. I really want to chrome my side cases but afraid of flaking chrome on the inside of cases. Can you just get the outside done or is it the hole thing? Polishing would be cheaper for me but alot of hard work.......

Wouldn't chrome reduce some of the AL cooling capability?
Unless its a non functional part, it would matter to me.
Cases would matter (it houses bearings, seals, clutch, transmission,...).
I don't know how much, but everything helps in an i.c.e. system.

Engineered reliabilty is no 1.
You can get AL shiney enough with a drill bit buffing wheel and AL creme.

Im not to worried about that, they have a paint finish on them from the factory and with the Oil cooling and the water cooling I think were A O K on temp, I was thinking a hard crome would be nice, but the idea of red anadized kinda makes me smile

chrome does seal in heat big time and it doesnt stick well to aluminum . when it does start to peel its a big job getting it off to rechrome.with a poished motor you just rub it back out. chrome is also the heaviest finish you could put on it. also anodizing will sun fade and cant be touched up
