Default KQ700, Lag, really a problem?

Hello,

I'm on the fence between three ATV's. KQ, Outlander 650, BF650i. I've heard a little bit about a power lag with the KQ. How true is the issue? Thanks for your input.

I have the 06 king and I don't notice a lag on mine. Great power and handling.

The KQ is a nice machine but the lag is there. When you hit the throttle is takes a split second for it to move and it there is a "lag" before power comes on. It is more an irritant than a problem. It is not bad enough that it should knock the KQ off your buy list. The fuel injection is a nice feature if you live or ride where exteme altitude changes are common. Also there is no choke and and no fuel shut off to worry about. I tested and priced every quad from every manufacturer before buying my 06 and found that dollar for dollar the KQ is the best value in a larger machine.

I love my 06 KQ 700. I am new to ATVing and bought it and a Rancher400AT for my wife. The KQ is in a totaly different class. More power better handling, more comfortable and the FI makes it dumby proof. I also have a blast with the diffLock in the mud.

I road a couple different machines with friends before buying and am very happy with the King. I sort of wish I had bought 2 of them but the Honda is also a great machine and the wife can learn to shift if she wants with its ES option if she gets bored with the auto.

I do wish the King had the option to manual shift. I road a friends honda down some steep hills and was happy to engine break my way down. I have not done anything like this with the king yet so maybe it will be a non issue.

A problem? No. An annoyance? Yeah a little at times. I'd put it midway down the list in terms of concerns if I was buying a King Quad.

You've got a good three to go with there. Of those three the KQ would be a fairly decent choice. A good case could be made for the KQ or the Outlander 650. Personally I'd spend a little extra and get Outlander 800. The KQ is good but the 800s mad power, great handling and suspension and most importantly the KQs continuing and seemingly never ending serious quality issues that never get properly addressed by Suzuki would put, and probably will put me with the Outlander 800.

The KQ would be a good choice too though. I get a good deal of seat time on a KQ and I love to ride the thing. Good handling machine that does all that is asked of it if the durability is questionable. The one I ride is currently smoking because of the air filter issue. Dealer is giving the owner the run around. On the plus side those riding behind it are free of mosquitos.
