Default 80cc quad yamaha moto 4, badger???

I have an old 80cc yamaha quad. It is auto and what I think to be 4 speed.... anyway my dad keeps saying to check the rear and top it off... Some sites indicate lube and others for 90w oil.....

Does anyone here have an answer?

The reason is that after running for about 5-10 minutes the rear is slipping...... ?????

what year is it? also put it on a jack stand and see if it has any play in the axle... I just rebuilt a rearend on an 1985 which takes grease not oil, the slipping could be one of 2 things, either the ring and pinion, or the clutches are toast. if there is any clicking or anything when the axle is rolling its the rear is toast, hope for the pinion($118) if it just seems to be reving out after awhile its the clutches.

for lube I used white lithium grease, thats what mine called for but, mine was the old style also. the newer ones used gear oil. as for a pinion the part #2HX-46120-00-00 you can get it from ronayers for like 98+ shipping

I have an extra now that I think of it, I have a pinion and bearing, the pinion is the original from my bike in good shape, the metal is pitted but its not going to hurt anythingthe gears are great, I just didnt have time to go get the old bearing race pressed off and the new bearing pressed on was in a hurry because the bike was my daughters big suprise so I went and bought a brand new pinion. any machine shop can do it for you, if you want it I'll make ya a deal on it.
