$900 later...

Well there you have it. My starter went on my DS after several of the dreaded kick backs. I shoulda listened to everyone and ditched the Procomm but no I needed the extra RPM's I kept telling myself. Well the sprag gear grenaded and took the starter with it. Almost $700 in parts alone and huge metal chunks in the oil when I drained it. Any advice on what to look for when I get it back from repair. I am worried that the metal from the gears may have done more damage

But wait... it gets better! I go to pick up my "repaired" quad and when we go to load it it won't start. No spark. After 3 days of diagnosis the find the magneto is covered in metal shavings and now it needs replacement. Try again, still no start no they want to replace the ignition coils because voltage is "all over the place" . Am I getting taken for a ride here? Does this sound legit. My bill is upto !$1500!!!! 5 weeks in the shop so far!
Any advice?
PS I hate PROCOMM

dam...why didnt you listen
some people have contacted procomm over this exact thing...it does sound like your bill is getting higher than the others but they might be doing the work themselves...do a search and you will see..
so sorry hope it works out. keep us posted

Well I think the final report on this is in. 5 weeks in and out of the shop. Total bill $1143!!!!!!!!! and that was with 25% off all parts cause the dealer felt sorry for me and about 3 hours free labor becase they didn't catch all the damage the first time!
Both ignition coils, magneto, starter, and gears, sprag gear, 3 oil changes, back to stock cdi and rectifier. My local dealer has never seen this happen to any quad...ever. I shared with my mechanic what I learned on this forum about the Procomm and he agreed that this could be the only cause. Just for everyones info. my machine did not kick back more than 20 times in the three years I've had it. If you re running the procomm take it out right NOW!
I can't believe a company could put out a product that could do this much damage. I am so mad right now I could sue and I don't believe in that!
Guys any ideas how I might recoup my losses?

Get a Vortex, no 'kickbacks'.
I originally bought a cheaper CDI for about $150 and had 'kickbacks' often. Then Kelly at KMS Performance told me of the damage that could result from the 'kickbacks' I bought a Vortex and sold the other CDI at half price.
After reading this topic, I say I saved myself a lot of money.
