Oil/Rear Brake Mishap????Puzzled...HELP!!!!
#1
Yesterday, My King got riden with the Parking brake set for about 15 min. When returned to me it had oil splashed all over the rear diff. & right rear shock (I have shock covers and it was soaked) and the differential was smoking hot. The rear brake didn't work anymore. I took it home and degreased the differential area and it cleaned up nicely.
I could not find where the oil had come from. It smelt like brake fluid but I'm not sure. My rear diff. has Amsoil in it and I will check the level before I ride tonight. My brake res. is full as well. Brake fluid is a light amber color. The king only has 500 miles on it. I adjusted the brake so that it works again using the adjustments in front of the differential.
Do you think I boiled the fluid in the differential and it was forced out, but from where ( the whole area was wet with oil)? I could not find a breather tube for the differential. Does it have one? Amsoil can sustain serious heat. Should I change it?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
