Raptor Transmission Question
#1
Hi, I have an 01 Raptor 660, and the only problem I have been having with the trans is about half the time when I put it into reverse, I let out the clutch, the gears skip until I push the shifter down again, then it is fine, it has not gotten worse in a year, stayed the same. Every other gear shifts good, just reverse skips about half the time and has since I got it a year ago. Will this hold up? or should I get a 02 trans update kit? (dont want to If I dont have to)
Also, my main question, I hate te gearing on the raptor, 2nd gear is way too tall, I like to ride around hills and climb and jums, and I am always between 1st and second, I would like to stay in second, but the gearing is too tall, could I get a different sprocket to fix this? or will that kill my tranny, I am sort of new to this, so I would greatly appreatiate any input.

I think the reverse problem your having is common. I always let the clutch out just a little and then push down on the shifter again to make sure it's fully engaged before I let the clutch all the way out.
A 12 tooth front or a 42-43 tooth rear will help with the tall second gear.

My reverse does the same thing. For the gearing go to a 12 tooth front sprocket if you still dont like it then try a 42 on the back. These gearing changes will reduce stress on the tranny. You will lose top speed though.I run a 12 in the front and 40 in the back its pretty good but when you start climbing hills in the sand 2nd still sucks. The 42 will help that.Gas on till it grenades.
