Default Transmission Oil Change, 93 350L 4x4

I'm looking to change the transmission fluid on my 1993 350L 4x4 and I know it doesnt take the AGL like my newer Xplorer does since its a type 2 gear drive transmission. My manual says 16 ounces of sae 30 for the fluid. Is that right? If it is 30 weight, would there be any benefit of running synthetic in it?

Thanks,
Mike

Polaris used a nasty graphite based transmission oil for the earlier models until agl came out. All models that used this nasty stuff could use agl from the bulletin we got from Polaris. Once I used all of the bulk oil we had,we used agl in everything from then on.Some people have used car oil in the old gear driven gear cases, but just my two cents agl is better.Either that or an equivalent oil to agl.

OPT, would a good synthetic chain case oil work in place of AGL in the geared transmissions? I want to change the oil, but only have access to amsoil or equivalent at the moment until I take a trip to the dealer.

Thanks,
Mike

Thanks OPT, if I have some time this week, I will try and drive to the dealer for the AGL, if not, the atv shop in town carries the Amsoil chain case oil. I found that every thing on this little 350L is a bear to get to, like the counterbalance oil plug and the trans oil plug, lol.

Thanks,
Mike

The fill plug for the counter balancer cavity is the 14mm plug at the front right of the engine. Only holds about 100ccs or so of oil. 30wt,0w40,5w40,etc is ok to use. Later model 400s had a dipstick/fill under the carb area. Yes the 350 and 400 are really time consuming machines and have a lot of areas to maintain front to rear. Remember everything on the engine is metric. The transmission bolts, body screws, nuts, suspension bolts and nuts and everything else is sae.. Make you want to pull your hair out at times..

I use the same chain case oil I use in my sled since the Polaris tranny is just one big chain inside. No problem in the 9 years I have used it.

Default crankcase oil

Hi OPT I have been pulling my hair out trying to get answers and was wondering if you could help.
I have a 350l polaris two stroke and have drained the crankcase oil WHERE IS THE FILLER PLUG.
I have drained and replaced the counter balance oil already
but there is two drains 1 for the counter balance and one for the crankcase but only one fill ??
Can you shed some light on this.

The 2 stroke engine crank cases doesn't contain oil like a 4 stroke engine. The oil is either in the oil tank or if it's blocked off along with the oil pump, the oil is mixed in with the fuel. The oil and gas mixture sucked in though the carb is shot up through the transfer ports in the cylinder to the combustion chamber for ignition. A thin film of oil is left on the bottom end to lubricate the piston and rings, lower crank bearings and lower rod bearing. Actually there are 3 10mm drain plugs on the bottom of the 350. Center one is for any gas/oil accumulated in the crank case, the one next to it is for the counter balancer drain, and then a drain on the starter motor to remove any water. The parts break down can help. Item#2 and #25.Dirt Cheap Yamaha, Polaris, Suzuki & Kawasaki OEM Parts & Accessories – Cycle Parts Warehouse Later model 400 engines had a counter balancer fill plug/dipstick under the carb area, but still retained the 14mm plug(#25) at the front of the case like the 350 had. Here's how a two stroke works.
