i have never changed the trany fluid on my 400ex and it's starting to shift hard

 

Your tranny fluid / oil is the same oil that lubricates your entire engine. If it's been very long since the oil was changed the engine is probably toast.

 

Like every other quad (except the Honda 450R....God bless Honda!), you have an integrated engine/transmission oil. That is, they share the same oil.

When you change oil, you need to drain the tank up front, and at the same time drain the residual oil left in the engine sump (bolt on the rear left side). See your owners manual for all this.

I gotta ask....did you purchase the quad from someone else or have you owned the quad since new without changing oil? You indicate you wanted to sell an 03 400ex in another of your posts....is your ride an 03 or an 04 400ex? Or did you sell the 03 and buy an 04?

 

i just changed the oil i did'ent know it was the same oil it's a 04 and it's the same one i have always had i did'ent know it was an 04 i did buy used and i have changed the oil alot just so you guys know that i am not a total retard it's still for sale if anybody is interested $3600

 

So you have changed the oil a lot but did'nt realize the trans and the engine oil was the same?

 

yeah i know it is stupid that i did'ent know i just did'ent think about it i am use to cars
