Yamaha Moto 4 trany noise (1984) or so
#1
Hello, I have a yamaha moto 4, it is early eighties (1984 i think) it has developed a noise in the transmission. Is there a common problem which occur with these machine? It sounds like a bearing type noise. Has anyone one ever had a problem like this and if so how hard of a fix is it? Thanks. It is a 225cc machine, it is not a gear grinding noise it is more like a whining noise, thanks.

My first quad was an 86 YFM225 Moto 4. Every time I rode it, it left every muscle in my body sore, but man I loved that thing. I still have it but it's in pieces and out of commission.
Sorry I can't help you with your question, but I think those who can may need a little more info. Is it a 200 or 225? By "bearing noise", do you mean a grinding noise like when a wheel bearing goes bad, or a knock like when a crankshaft bearing goes bad? I never had a problem like that with mine, the only tranny issue I had was it seemed like the shifter had a really long throw to change gears, but the thing was already near 15 years old when I bought it, so I didn't think much of it.
Hope someone can help you out.
