'01 Warrior starting problems
#1
Ok I posted on here once before about my '01 Warrior not starting. I've tried a new battery and new selnoid (under rear left fender). Still does not start. Something is draining the battery. When the battery is charged and I hit the start button I hear a clicking noise under the rear left fender. I was told to try a new starter by other ppl in here. Ok here's a dumb question...where is the starter? (embarrassing to ask) Yes the quad has sat for awhile in my garage, but now I have ppl I can go riding with and need the thing to start. Once I have the thing started it works GREAT!!!
Why oh why didn't Yamaha put a pull cord/kick start on the Warrior?????
Thanks!!!!!!!

The starter is a cylinder-shaped thing down low in the front of the motor. Follow the wire from the solenoid to it if you're not sure. Don't just go and replace the starter, that would be dumb. You can either test the starter yourself with a set of jumper cables, or take it to an auto parts store and have them test it. If the starter tests bad you'll have to replace it, but if it tests good your problem is either the connection between the battery and solenoid, between the solenoid and starter, or the solenoid itself.

? for you on the starting problem.
Did it just happen all of a sudden like? My starter went on my Warrior, but it was noisy for a long while before that. Seems the motor seal went and let oil in around the commutator and started arcing the crap out of that and the brushes. I took it an alternator shop and the guy rebuilt the poles on the commutator and replaced the seal and brushes.
Do like the guys said here .. access to the starting motor connections are on the right side of the quad down low below the header. The starter is about the size of a pop can, so it should be easy to identify and the fact that it's the only thing on the front of the engine with wires to it ... make sure the bike is in neutral before you apply power directly to the motor, else wise you could get ran over quite easily ..
If it doesn't turn, release the connections, and there are three bolts holding the starter into the engine. 10mm I do belive. Do not tap the starter to see if you can free it either .. that's a very quick way to ruin a possibly fixable starter. Take it off and bring it to a starter/alternator shop. They have it working in a jiff ..
Good luck!!
