Trying to beat a 450r and cant happen
#1
Me and my buddy have been neck to neck stock but he has the 450r with a power up kit, whitebrothers exaust and a rev box and i have hpd cams, vortec rev box , rath head pipe and whit brothers exaust with a 180 jet. Know I have a 2006 troy lee edition and he still stomps me and mainly in top end. When i am peged out he still has another gear to go. I hear all of this talk that they should be close or maybee even faster but i cant see whats wrong. does anyone have any advise of what to do and i really dont want to bore it. Thanks

Sounds like the only thing you haven't changed are the sprockets.
You could change those, and possibly beat the 450R, but will also change how it handles the trails.
Have you opened the airbox up yet?

Yes i put a foam filter with an adapter that hooks on the black plastic peace the went to the stock airbox but i see some people are puting the filter directly on the carb. Will that make a diff. correct me if im wrong but isnt the troy lee geared more for low end. Maybee i need to change my sprockets!

if he's only beating you in top end its most likly the troy lee (not trying to be negative) the troy lee gear box is set up kind of funny most of the gears are real short and quick and then the top gear is tall almost like an overdrive gear. becuase of the spacing you don't have much options he's making better use of his top gear. You could look at swapping to standard gears(expensive) or play with the sprockets some. We recently set a raptor up to were it was geared extremely tall in 5th gear(couldn;t pull it) but it was faster top end in 4th gear then it originally was in 5th. it didn't get much slower in drag racing either (think corvette were the sixth gear is only for cruising).
say you take him by 4 lengths off the start now. by gearing higher it may only be two lengths but you will hold the lead longer then before but the top gear will lug even more. You can try gearing down to get more use of the top gear (if its lugging on you) but if presently you are reving the top gear all the way to the limiter then you will loose speed.
drag races are 300feet anything after that is just top speed to gain top speed you tend to loose time in 300 feet.
