ITP 589's Good or No Go???
#1
I have a 2003 Sportsman 400 and i was thinking about going one size tire bigger and going with the 589's. I want to know what people think about these tires. Good, Bad, what is the deal. Im looking for a good mud tire but at the same time something that will be good all around.

Very good tire! I have a set of 27's that have been on my 2002 HO since new, they have a ton of miles (at least 1,500) and are only 30% worn. I ride very hard in rugged, rocky, northeast terrain. I have never had a flat, unlike everyone else i ride with, especially radial tire guys. They ride well on hardpack and do fine rockcrawling. Wonderful in the mud. They are not really that heavy either. Very durable compuond, it is so good that itp is switching the mudlites to the 589 rubber compound. I have grooved mine with a tire groover to make them more compliant and have siped all the tread blocks for rock traction.

Mine are pretty awesome in any loosely packed surface. They seem to "push" in corners on hard pack trails though. The only time that I get stuck with them is when the frame get's hung up on something. Pretty awesome in the snow also. I would definitely recommend them.

I don't think I'll ever buy another set of ITPs. Mine are holeshots, but their quality control must really suck. I bought the same size tires as my brothers. My left rear is the same size, but the right is larger. The fronts are also larger. It doesn't matter whether I run lower pressure or not. In fact, initially I was running 3lbs while my brothers were both running 4.5
I've written an email to ITP, and A&B Xtreme (on this forum, where I bought them from) and neither have responded. I bought them in the fall, and didn't really ride on them until this spring because the quad stays in the garage in the winter. At that point, I ran over a screw in the garage while moving it in and out to work on the sleds. So now with a plug, I have a feeling that they'll deny any recourse if I ever get in touch with them.

The only concern would be weight and speed reduction for your smaller bike. but i will tell ya I dont get stuck in mud pits.Cross traction could be better though and another excellent chioce would be the Bearclaws for your lower HP bike.I loved those tires and cheaper i beleive. Amazzing side traction and tough but the better mudder would be the 589's. The bearclaws have excellent side wall protection and side nubs to help traction for cross traction.
