Default Review of BOSS NOSS first weekend out!

I wanted to wait until today to post my intial review of my new BOSS kit due to my lack of sleep over the weekend I wanted to make sure I had a clear head.

First off I want to thank Jim and Marky at BOSS for their outstanding customer service! If you go with them on your bike they will make sure you are satisfied and understand the system completely and will stand behind it.

Cons:
Any issues I had were due to my set-up, I need a 43t rear sprocket instead of a 42t and I am way overdue for a new CDI with a higher rev limit.

The only other problem I encountered was using a different bottle with a different valve that had higher flow than mine but I just need to lean it out a hair back on my bottle very easy fix.

As far as the bottle position it does work fine where we mounted it on the front, but due to my lack of sleep and fuzzy head it did mount the bottle upside down one time with the siphon tube pointing up instead of down in the bottom woops my bad. I think I'm going to reposition it with the valve pointing down for a little more stealth and to get that last little bit of juice out of the bottom of the bottle.

Pros:

I am a nitrous newbie for sure but it only took a few bottles to get it dialed in. I had it very close all on my own Saturday morning, very easy to adjust and once you understand how it should hit and what to listen and feel for anyone can get it dialed in. Marky was there to help re-assure me and to get it right on in the afternoon, I appreciate his help.

Once I had it dailed in I was grinning ear to ear! As a bigger guy (235) I need that little edge to get up a few of the climbs in 3rd gear, for anyone familiar with the finger climbs on the face of sand mtn. I was able to shoot the middle finger (no pun intended) in 3rd gear on the nos and I'm overgeared just a little. Like I said grinning ear to ear, this was the first time I've ever had the confidence and the power to give that climb a go. It hits hard from the first hit to the last, you can sure tell when you out of juice

I am exteremly happy with the system and can't wait to run some more juice through it next weekend at St. Ann's and getting the 30hp nozzle tunned. I forgot to mention, I have kind of a custom set-up, I have a 20hp nozzle on one side of the snorkle and a 30 hp nozzle on the other. All I have to do to switch beween the two is swap the nitous line on the smart box and adjust the micro fuel adjustment up richer for the higher hit!

Now all I need is a huge bottle of Nitrous to put in the trailer.....and a longer swing arm, I had no idea how much fun this would be when your holding the button down all the way up the hill

Great to hear you are happy with the new setup, I am thinking of the Boss Noss myself, any chance of some pics of the bottle installed? My 04 baja X is mostly stock and I presume the bottle will fit behind the front bumper or is there a better location? Is the increase in performance as big as say fitting your carb or exhaust? Just trying to judge what to expect when I hit the button with a 20 shot

I've got to get Mark a pic of my bottle mount. Maybe Sandbomber can have someone produce them. it's sets the bottle behind the left side of the radiator and is completely out of the way. The warm air from the radiator keeps the bottle at about 85 - 90* (varified by laser temp gun). Seems to keep it there whether it's 50* or 80*. Works very well and when you are sitting on your bike, you see about 1 inch of the bottle. Out of the way and completely contained. Pull on the bottle and your can pull your entire bike around. Rubberized stay, and three mounting points. I'll see if I can get a good pic posted and some of you can probably fab it up yourself. Promise.... it's the cabbage!

Good to hear about the BOSS. Can't wait to get some seat time on a BOSS equiped sled. Interesting to see what it's like.

Good review.

Hey Bigdaddy I would love to see some pics of your bottle mount location, I have seen them mounted on the lhs before near the radiator, whilst sitting on the bike. Looking at your pic page , that looks like a stock carb fitted? not the lectron. What are your thoughts on the boon setup and how long have you been on the funny gas?

Those pics are VERY old. The new stuff looks nothing like it. I'll get some pics up tomorrow and you'll be able to give it a good spec.

I absolutely LOVE my BD system. The most fun I've had in years. Very simple, Very reliable. Not sure if the BOSS give you any more of either, but I like what I'm seeing. I'd have to put it through some torture of my own before I can recommend it. But it does look nice. When the guys with the systems get the bugs worked out, we should have some good data on it.

I'll get those pics up tomorrow. I'll get the pics up with and without the bottle. Also give you a look at the dash. Mario used to call it the space shuttle. I think it's simple and VERY effective.

Talk at you guys tomorrow.

Bugs, what bugs? Bigdaddy, there are no bugs with Nates system. Yes, he is looking at new mods to compensate for the new HP like longer swingarm and different gearing. But lets not hint there are any bugs with the system when there is not. As far as bottle position, the best position is with no siphon tube and the bottle valve down at a 45 degree angle to the rear. But, ATVs have very little room. Let me make this perfectly clear - ALL siphons are threaded into the bottle valve, thus decreasing the bottle valve orafice size - which, decreases nitrous flow. The BD valves are really restrictive. Putting a siphon tube on one of those is double trouble.

Also, I just want to clarify what you said about heating the bottle. Sleds use this technique when they ride in snow at 0 to -30 degrees F. Nitrous does not flow with the BD system in those conditions. So, you would need to heat the bottle. If you attempt to heat a BD bottle - on the dunes - at temps of 90 degrees F, you are getting close to making your nitrous transition and your system will actually run rich.

Nates system is regulated, so any heating is silly - the Nitrous flow is controlled by the regulator - all the way down to -30 degrees.

Take a deep breath Mark..... there, much better. "Bugs" is not refering to the system by itself, simply the way that the entire bike works with the juice applied - you took that out of context.
let's not get on the chip that fast. Remember, until you starting working for BOSS, BD was the way to go and the end all. I agree that the BD still has it's characteristics or issues, but it's still extremely good when compared to the old days of the wet systems.

I do mount my bottle upside down, and the bottle is kept at a good 80 - 90 degrees. Let's get that Boss system working and winning races.... when it does that with someone who is at the top of they're game.... then we got a system. Fortunately Mark, you won't be able to be everywhere in the US when people put their systems on.

I've tuned systems to win the big race. I got the KING Of The Hill trophy in my corner when all was just about given up on. I made a system work out of literally a mish-mash of parts. I wasn't doing it because I NEEDED to... I did it because these guys are my friends and we needed to win. So before you climb on the chip and start puffing up on line, know who you're talking to and what I'm about.

I'll say it again, I think that the BOSS has a BUNCH of potential. Let's get it out there and see how it performs over time and in conditions. I've yet to here a review that has done just that positively without excuse. Then again, maybe I'm just reading the wrong posts.

I have decided I am going to buy the Boss Noss and try it out................

My DS is a sleeper and I sure wish there was a place to mount that bottle that was a little more descrete than the front bumper.
