Default 700R or not??Help!!!

Went to the dealership today and did some tire kicking an the new 700R. When I left I called the banker and she said that she would write me the check. Why I called her, I don't know. I have a 400Z that I have 2500+ in the motor. I dusted 450's and 660's all weekend. Never seen the new 700R to race. I do all types of riding.Motocross,dunes,trails,mountains. I live in Nebraska and go to Colarado to ride as well.2500 feet in elevation to 10,000+. Not having to re-jet puts a smile on my face. Parting with my 400Z doesn't. Are the 700R's so great that they'll make me forget about my love affair with the 400Z? I'm 99% happy with my 400Z. It could handle better. It wants to drift high when I take a high speed corner and the rear end dances alot in the whoops sections. Motor wise I love it. Will the 700R with a complete GYTR muffler, head pipe, high flow air filter and adapter plate beat my 400Z? I'm right at 50 horse with my Z. I'm lost and don't know what to do.

Sounds like with the way you have your Z modded it will be a push. I'm at 50+ RWHP with just bolt on mods and Dyno tuning. I'm very happy with my 700R and it's been trouble free so far. I think it handles great, the torque is unreal and I love the EFI. You will need an EFI controller if you plan to do any mods. Mines strictly for the dunes so I can't speak to the MX or trail capabilities.

IMHO,
You need to find one to ride before you make a decision if your that happy with your 400Z

As much as I love my 700 I dont think you will be gaining much. Its a great quad but with what youve invested in the

z, I dont believe there will be a noticeable gain any where and maybe even a loss on some things. The 700r is a

great quad and I think over time with mods you would come to like it more but with just a pipe and stuff you might

be a little disappointed in the beginning. Alot of the handling problems you named you had on the z the 700 will also.

It handles great but in those areas it doesnt handle as good as the 450's

Thanks for your posts guys, but I think I'm going to order one.Mine is four years old and I just want something new again.Something to tune on so to say. The nice thing about it is that the 400Z will stay in my family and if it gets sold again its going to me. My best friend wants to get into the hobby and I can't say no to him for some reason. I cut him one heck of a price,$3200.I"ll just have to eat some humble pie when he smokes me on the hill climb for the first year. When we go to the track or trails, hes a goner.

What does EFI controller cost? Are they hard to tune? Should I just have the dealership do it when I put the cams in?What about CDI boxes? I notice the most gains in hp on the 400Z when I put the cams in and the vortex cdi box.

Controllers run from about $150 to $275 depending on which one and where you get it.

Havent started modding mine performance wise yet. Buying protection stuff first since I came off a warrior and it has alot more power than Im used to anyway

I haven't seen a 700 at the track yet. I have seen some 660's though, so I would think it could get around a track pretty good also.

I always ride before I buy, if a dealer can't accomodate me on that I find another dealer that wants my business.

I think you will love the 700R you can putt all you want and you can haul azz when you want. Very smooth predictable power band and it's a blast to ride.

I like the sound of that. My 400Z has always liked the RPM"S. If fact it runs more like a 2 stroke now. Reminds me of an old 250R. Need to keep it in the powerband or its worthless. Its tough to beat if you keep it in the high rpms. After the dealer gets mine put together I think I'm going to put a 12 tooth on the front. My old 400z might be shakin in its boot after that. I have no need to run 75+mph. I'm more into climbing and short drags than anything.

The 700R's a torque monster that likes to be short shifted, you might want to rethink dropping from the stock 14 down to a 12 I run 20 inch sandstars and I can pull a 15 pretty easy although I prefer the stock gearing for hillshooting.
The most I would drop the 700R to is a 13 on the front if I was running 22 inch tires althought there are a few running 22's with stock gearing and loving it.
