Default Questions about 1987 350 4x4

I am looking at a 1987 honda 350 4x4. The bike has unknown milage but starts and runs ok. The 4x4 works well and overall is in good shape for its age. It does need brakes front and rear, it smoke a bit and and needs tires. My queston is. Does anyone know about how much it will cost to have a motor rebuilt and completely overhaul the brakes. Just a rough estimate is all i need just to see if the quad is a good deal. Thanks alot guys!

Default Questions about 1987 350 4x4

I had an 86' 350 4x4 they're built like a tank, heavy straight axle on front and a metal fuel tank under the seat. I sold mine to my youngest brother in sept. 2005 and he ride's it every day. It does smoke a little when you first start it up, a little black smoke then stop
s smoking once it burn's off the excess fuel; it has never used any oil between oil change's ! I don't know what it would cost for an engine rebuild, but i rebuilt the brakes before i sold it to my bro, you didn't say how much the asking price for the one you're looking at ! Inspect the brakes to see what all you need to replace, i had to replace everything on the 86' Cyclinders and shoes; my local dealer want'ed 65.00 each for the three cyclinders and 39.00 per axle for shoes. I found a complete set of OEM backing plate assemlies for the front on ebay, new backing plates, cyclinder's shoe's all new keeper springs, clip's and all for 152.50 with free shipping ! These assemblies from Honda cost over 250.00 an axle ! I did my own labor, know telling how much a dealer would charge for labor, if your cyclinder's are ok and you do your own labor it wouldn't be too bad though. Get a repair manual if you buy the quad, it will pay for it's self on the brake job alone ! Let us know how it goes.............williebee
