Your spark plug wire probably got wet......there are ways to silicone around the coil and boot to stop that...search and you can find out. I'm not sure exactly what to use to seal it with and i dont want to tell ya the wrong thing......good luck

What year is it? Between me and my riding buddies we have figured out that the older models get their plug wet a little easier than the newer ones. They spit and sputter every time we go through creeks. It will be alright, don't worry about it.

Get some dielectric grease, and put it on the outside of the spark plug and on the inside of the spark plug cap. That should keep the plug from shorting out.
If it still happens, then do the two plugs going to the cdi, remove both plugs, goop up both the plug and the socket, and reinstall.

You should buy the newer style cdi thingy for a 2005 off Ebay because mine doesn't do it, and it's an '05. Mine bogs when we go for a swim, but all I do is stuff my hand in there and feather the choke. That indicates to me that my sputtering problems are caused by changing air densities in the engine when the block is cooled rapidly. (All 300's are cold-blooded, and I would guess that that's part of your problem)
