Default Static Sag/Race Sag Questions

Here we go again more shock stuff.

First off I must say the rear shock on my 05 DS650X from the factory was set perfect for me from the get go. As I have tried to adjust the fronts I'm getting up set and feel like going into a wrench throwing frenzy.

Now the fronts.

Pull all the prelaod and measure get my reading. Sit on thing and get my preload for that. Here is where it gets stange. If I sag the shock enough to get 2.5 of sag (20% of total travel) I do not have enough spring tension to keep the springs from binding and clanking and making all kinds of noise when they are compressed hard liek off a jump of four feet.

So I guess now I need a different springs for the front or is there something else I can do.

Also Im not a small guy 6'1 and about 220 so I would think I would be able to get the stock suspension to work for me.

One last question when I pull all the preload out of the front I can let go and it stays there it will not moveor go back down any. All the other quads I have had when you pulled all the preload out and let go it would drop back down an inch or two. Does everone's do this is it because of the gas shocks on the X or what.

One last thing I have a single clicking noise when I turn the bars either direction. Everything seems tight from the stem on down is it just the movement or is something else going on. When I grab the wheels and pull them I dont get the noise so the rules out ball joints. There does not apear to be any thing to go bad in the stem or the tie rods any thoughts.

Any help would be great.

All three of ours did that same thing. Funny thing is, my dad and I are both around 300, and Crash is 220 ish. All of our bikes were with in 3/4 of an inch of where they should have been from the factory. Pretty cool. I was hoping to adjust and get some improvments, but it looks like we are good to go

As for your front end, I am at 285 now, and have about 2.5 in the front also. No wierd nioses or anything. Don't know if that means anything or not...

when you lift the front and then let go and it stays up, its partly due to the fact that the tires have to spread apart for the suspension to collapse, and the tire traction is preventing it. this also interferes when you are setting sag height - when you get on the bike to take the second measurement and then do your math to come up with sag, you gotta roll the bike back and forth to get the front wheels to spread for a true measurement. If you are getting 2.5" of sag without having to roll the bike back and forth, then the springs are probably to loose.
Just throwing this out, you might have already considered this but just in case...
