When I bought my ATP 500 HO, I thought I was buying a modified Sportsman, which I was glad considering they are one of the most popular ATVs around. Now I find out it's really a modified Magnum. What's the difference between these 2 models anyway?

Hmm,The difference between the magnum and sportsman.Well the magnum is a 330.Sportsman is atleast a 400.Magnum has a solid axle and sportsman is independent.Plastic on the magnum is like the 96-02? sportsman and sportsman
has new styled plastic.Hope this is what you are wanting.It is still more sportsman imo,
because of the 500 engine.

 

I was hoping to see if the chassis was different or perhaps the drive system or some other parts or capability. Something more refined that you couldn't see without just looking at it.

I think the chasis is more or less the same other than not having IRS. As far as mounting points for the rear ends, Im not sure.....

 

Your ATP500 has the same powerplant as the 500 Sportsman but it has rear suspension like a Magnum non IRS (non independent rear suspension).
