I am about too change the chain on my Polaris in the new few days and I wonder how manyof you have had to.

1) Change your chain
2) How often have you changed it?
3) Did you change your chain yourself or have dealer do it.

break the chain on the back sprocket

connect to new chain and slide it thru the front sprocket

cut to length if needed,,,install the master link

Have an 03 trail boss 330 chain driven which has never been adjusted but am getting a clinging noise when I first accelerate and the chain is starting to hit on the trailing arm. There is a bit of side play in the front sprocket
The sprocket tips still have a bit of a flat spot and the chain seems to be in good shape lubricate it every time out should I replace or tighten and any tips on how to do that.

Thanks

sounds like your chain is hitting the swing arm,,,,and or the chain may be kinking up

if you jack the quad up and rotate the rear tires,,,,does the chain flow smoothly? If so,,,it may just need a little adjusting. If not, you may want to clean/lube the chain, and go from there.

a little play in the front sprocket is normal

is there much wear on the front edge of the sprocket teeth?

chain maintenance on those polaris bikes is kind of important

if the chain breaks,,,good chance it will wedge into the tranny and crack it

you should look into an aftermarket chain tensioner possibly,,,,or at least be on top of the chain maintenance

Our trailblazer 250 threw a chain after about 10 hours use. Our Scrambler never had a chain problem,,,,but i never really gave it a chance to,,,,after going thru the trailblazer issue.

keep er lubed,,,,and keep er in spec

Bing's gotten you some good advice.

Also check the chain to see if any of the rubber o-rings are missing. If so, time for a new chain. And if the sprockets have flat spots, might as well change those as well.

Check out sledpartsguy on ebay for chains and/or sprockets.

Thanks for the info guys, yes I do lube every time out and with it up in the air and I rotate the chain goes snug and seems fine, just as when I accelerate. One thing I noticed is that the noise does not happen then either, not until she is back on all fours with a load on it. The dealer was the one who mentioned that I should still have a 1/16 flat spot on top of the sprockets which I still seem to have so am going ot adjust and see where that brings me. From what I have gathered I just need to free the rear axle to rotate and then adjust by rotating it.

Thanks again.

If you've never done it before, remember to loosen the two bottom bolts on the brake (rear) caliper. Seen many people miss that on the first try, and can't get it to tighten.

And yes, I was one of them.
