how about 1/4 mile tar set ups

Hi guys
I am thinking about trying to run my ds in the 1/4 miles drag races just for giggles. I am wondering what yould be a good set up as far suspesion goes. The bike is basicly stock hmf pipe k&n filter 22" rear tires and 23" front and different sprockets. I went up 1 tooth on the front and down 1 on the rear. I have to bring it to the dyno and get the jetting spot on before I do this so if any of you could help me out with some tips that would be great. Thanks in advance.

Try wickedpowersports.com but I think there site is still under construction for the tires.
I have seen several racers use the strap idea. I have never tried it but, I think the theory behind it is to take the suspension out of the bike so that the tires hook harder.
If you have any fabricating experience, try making you some drag struts or you can buy them from marvin shaw.

you really dont need sliks, i burn rubber with my itp holeshots gripper tires, you need to stap front down as much as you can , take some spring preasure out , on both front shocks you can use normal strapps or get fancy like i did and replace shocks with round tubbing, bike should be as close to the ground as you can get it,

It might be hard to see my avitar, but my quad is set up for 1/4 mile drag in the picture. I replaced the front shocks with stainless tube, because they do take alot of load if you come down from a wheelie too hard. I set the length so the front a-arms were at about equal angles to eachother[the lower angled up slightly, the upper angled down slightly.].
For the rear, I used theaded eye hooks and turnbuckles from Home Depot to cinch it down. Much more secure and only cost $5-$10. They also allow for hight adjustment to get optimum weight transfer, by silmply turning the turnbuckles. I use two, for safeties sake, and wire them together to keep them from turning loose while riding.
For front tires, I use an uncut version of the radials that Moto-X quads sometimes run.
In the rear, I use Hoosier slicks off of a formula 500 car. Before I go back next time though, I'm going to need a taller tire[currently only about 18" tall]. Right now, with the tallest gearing available, I still run out of gear at about the 700-800' point. Hoosier makes a dirt oval tire for ATV's that is much taller, around 22'.
You'll need a dead-man switch, and the rules say a chain gaurd although I don't use a chain gaurd and never had a problem.
A leather jacket, jeans, and over the ankle boots, are required in addition to your helmet and gloves. That is unless your running over 120MPH, then you need full leathers, top and bottom.
I think that current rules require a non-knobie type tire if running the 1/4, but a knobbie is OK in the 1/8. Most tracks don't know any better anyway though.

Ya thats what the rule say knobiesin the 1/8 mile but a hard sidewall tire in the 1/4 mile. I am also scared that by the time I get wound out the tires might be close to coming of the bead. Right now with the gearing and taller tires I am getting about 85-90 mph guessing. cause its still pulling when I hit 75 and the tire sure looks like its about ready to pop off the bead. THat would be my biggest fear.
