Default blaster problems

i bought a blaster for a hundred dollars, it supposedely wasnt working good so i cleaned the carb and it worked fine, ive been riding it and a couple days ago it started running like crap, it wouldnt hit the powerband and was really bogging down, we were riding in dusty conditions and thats it, i cleaned the carb, looked at the reeds, nothing, switched to yamahas recommended oil, changed the spark plug, got a new air filter, nothing, it still isnt running right. i can get it to hit the powerband only when i take the air filter and lid off, if i leave the lid on it still runs like crap so both have to be off, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks

You got a good deal on that even though it is running like crap well I would just take it down to yamaha and see what the problem is then see how much it is to get it fixed

bad idea, they will tell you alot of things are wrong with it that might not be or might not be bad, either get a manual and try doing som eof their trouble shooting tips or pm someone in this forum who knows blasters well and discuss specifics, or you can bring it to a atv mechanic, not a dealership, i dont know much abou tengines but maybe it needs a rebuild or you cna take apart the engine and clean it and put some rings and seals in there and some gaskets, just my 2 cents good luck and great deal

You could try jetting it down a bit. Does it run the way you feel it is supposed to with the filter and lid off? If it has full power then, I would rejet. Also, have you tried fresh gas?

do you have a gas filter on it, or do u mix the gas, if you dont mix the gas put a little gas filter on it and it will help some and its only like $1.50 to 3 bucks

thanks i havent tried differnet gas, i was thinkin it might be but didnt have a containter to put it in and didnt want to dump it out, and yes it runs almost right when i have the lid and filter off, harder than usual to hit high rpms in high gears but its not that bad, and no i dont mix the gas, i think we have a spare gas filter lyin around somewhere, im gonna try and drain the gas first and see what happens, thanks a ton

Did you adjust the air screw back the factory settings when you put the carb back? Did you change the position of the needle on the clip? ANYWAYS GOOD DEAL>

naw i didnt change the clip and yes i adjusted the air screw back to factory settings, and i did change the gas, my opinion is the exhaust is somehow plugged, only thing that makes sense, it runs rich because it fouls the plug way to quick and it runs decent with the air filter and lid off, yet it doesnt produce nearly as much smoke as i use to
