YFZ 450 running hott
#1
I have a 04 YFZ450 thats stock and when I ride it in the summer heat the exhaust is almost unbearable. I took the lights off the front to maybe push more are into the radiator so it runs cooler but nothing. Is this a problem or do most of them do this. Also at night the exhaust glows red hot.
Thanks alot,
Nate

Is it just putting out alot of heat or is the engine actually running hot. Because it is normal for alot more heat being put off by the header pipe compared to other bikes. And the header glowing at night is normal.

Are you wearing shorts? If it is a real problem, there is a number of things you can do to make it run cooler. Install a larger radiator, run water wetter or engine ice, put on an inline cooler, etc. etc.

Kind of off topic, but YamiYFZ, does your header come way out toward your leg or something? I have an HMF full system and have never had a problem with burnt pants. Come to think of it, engine heat doesn't really bother me that much either.

To clarify,
I see this as a common response from people. Your header glowing red is not normal!!!
As for your bike running hot, there are a number of things you can try. Check your thermostat, it might not be opening. Also, try replacing your stock coolant with something that runs cooler like Engine Ice. These are cheap solutions.
Bigger raditors are expensive, yes, but they do the job.

Actually, a lot of the newer exhaust systems are running a thinner stainless steel than in years past, especially aftermarket. It is possible to be jetted correctly and have your header glow a bit.
