All,
Spent this Saturday riding a DPX-200 and rode it hard. I have to give you an honest review of this quad:

Pros-
-$2k cheaper than my Honda 250 Recon
-Has good top end
-Fun to ride
-75% as good as my Honda for less than half the price
-Dual sport and utility

Cons-
-Rides a little rough, not bad. Let some air out of tires was better
-Battery is junk
-Too low of a CC for a clutch, but not an issue, just personal choice

Overall- Great quad, good quality for around $1500.00. If I purchased this, I wouldn't have bought my Adult Falcon ATV 250. Weighing a Chinese quad...may want to gamble with this. I rode it hard and it did well. SEADAWG

 

Thanks for the review SEADAWG!! It is really that much better than the Falcon 250? Also, what did you mean by "Too low of a CC for a clutch"?

I like the Honda high CC quads with the clutch. Don't get me wrong, it is just my preference...it still had good power. I ride on several tight trails and my others have no hand clutch...makes it easier.
AS for it being better than the 250s...not even close. The DPX-200 is a much better design...old Honda type...no auto trans w/ weight bearing...no auto choke that doesn't work and water cooled. Simple, proven design and much better price. DPX has my thumbs up!

 

Oh I get it now....You think a 200cc engine is too small for a manual clutch. I sort of like the having a clutch for just about any size engine but it is definitely easier to have a auto clutch. Also keep us informed as to how the Redcat DPX holds up the the SEADAWG CHALLENGE!! [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif[/img]

My buddys new DPX200 has had a carb leaking problem from the first day he got it. The dealer has installed 5 new carbs on it shipped from redcat. The fifth one was tested at the parts depot in AZ before shipping. It flooded out the overflow running and with the motor off. Turn the gas of and it continues to leak till the gas is below the overflow pipe.

I know ("float sticking problem"),on five brand new carbs from Redcat ?

Redcat or the dealer dosn't know what the problem is after eight weeks, with five weeks in the shop.
It's pretty sad Redcat hasn't offered to replace the unit all they say is we are working on the problem.

The dealer took a carb to the a local carb shop they checked it adj. it and it still leaked .

The dealer now has said Redcat is getting complaints about the carb flooding out problems from all over the country.

MAYBE YOUR REVIEW NEEDS TO BE RE EVALUATED!!!

P.S. When he has ridden the DPX200 It has been a good ride but hard on gas mileage as a stream of gas runs out of the overflow.

Your float does not have to be sticking for the carb to keep overflowing fuel. It could be a few things, double-check your float adjustment. Make sure your float valve is shutting the fuel off properly. If it isn't, fuel will continue to flow until you shut off the petcock and the fuel in the bowl drains below the overflow tube. It is also possible that the float valve and seat just do not work correctly due to poor design, or it is out of spec on those Chinese carbs. At this point I would not rely on Redcat to fix your problem for you. It is going to be up to you to do a little research to try and find a replacement carb. Or wait for someone to post that has already done the upgrade.


Have you guys considered changing out the carb with a true Mikuni or Keihin?

What type of carb does Redcat use on those, DPX 200's CV or round slide?

With as many carb swap outs that your dealer has done with the same problem, it seems to me it would make more sense to change out the carb all together. If you do consider a new carb go with a new or used carb of the same size. A place to start would be to look into carbs that are on the Honda's XR or CRF 150, and 200's. The carb is a round slide type with a two bold manifold hookup. I know the float adjustment is crtical but the dealer did the setup and sale, Redcat sold the defective unit to him. If they want
kind words on there units they need to stand behind them. I have a new Redcat VX150 and had carb. problems with it. (they sent me a new carb its ok now). My brother has a new VX150 and had rear seal problems out of the crate. He got the seal local for $7.50 Redcat wanted $10 to ship it.

One of the main problems is if you warranty a part, Redcat charges you a $10 fee to ship it to you even if its a $8 part. Don't mind turning wrenches but you expect to get a properly runing unit when a Redcat dealer sells you a unit at $700 over the internet dropship price.

The dealer just gave my budy a 2nd carb I am going to play with it and see if I can get it to work. Right now Redcat has a black eye on the DPX-200.

I can't believe it is 2006 and we have carb design problems. If they can't make steady, dependable carbs, buy the company should save face and just buy them from Mikuni...or copy them.
