4x4 = 4 wheel drive It's better in snow and mud. It is also a little heavier than the 2x4, a little more expensive to,both now and later. 2x4 = 2 wheel drive. faster than 4x4. handles a little better, therefore a litttle better trail machine . I also think you will have less maint. on 2x4

I have a speedo on my Scrambler and notice no difference in speed between 4x4 and 2x4. If you race some buddies you will get the holeshot with the 4x4 on.

I just traded a 500 2x4 in and got a 400 4x4. but anyway when I had my 500 2x4 a friend alot smaller then me has a 500 4x4 we got to racen we stayed side by side for a little while then I started to leave him, he didn't like that. but he would pass me up muddy hills.
