At wits end..PLEASE help!!!!!!

Hello, We have a problem and hope someone may can help us. We have a falcon 110 and we do not know what the problem is. It will not start. It has gas flowing thru the carb. Cleaned the carb. cleaned spark plug, made sure it was gaped right, check all connections, tried to pop start it. that starter will turn and sometimes it will back fire but will not turn over. fuel mix is right(by manual standards). Do not know what to set idle screw at. silinoid tries to turn it over when you connect the two sides with a screwdriver. I dont know what else to try. Any help would be very useful and appreciated. The motor is getting compression and we have even tried to put a little gas in with the spark plug and try to help it along, but I guess its not meant to be. Thanks.......Sharon

hi
is this a new or used atv? has it ran before? have you check to make sure their's a spark? i woundn't worry about idle adjustment yet until you can start it, are you saying the starter motor not turning the engine over or it's turning it over but the engine not starting when using the starter bottom? if the engine turning over and you have spark then i'd try some starter fluid and see what it does then, if the atv used and have a spark then i'd try a valve adjustment,

We have had many problems with the stock spark plug. You should replace it with a good NGK. You can pick these up at almost any autoparts store. the part number is C7HSA . The online store sparkplugs.com always has them in stock. Then try starting fluid. Valve Adjustments are very rare on these engines. If you need a solenoid you can get one for a Harley-Davidson and Use it. ***Edited by atv connection moderator***

tight valves are very common on these engines 50-110cc . i guess yamoto15o still a little wet behind the ears, so let me explain why use starter fluid, its simple if it starts with starter fluid then you know its a fuel deliverly problem and not electrical. if it doesn't start with starter fluid then it's more than likely electrical or mechancial.

Thanks for the advice...it was bought new and rode 2 times, then they said there was a POP and it stopped running. I have put the new spark plug in it, the kind you suggested, but it acts like it wants to crank, but it just doesnt. Is there a timing chain or something?? I have NO idea how to fix that problem, if thats the case. I have tried the starting fluid and it still will not start. It is getting gas and spark, so I am SOOOO lost. Anything else...??? Thank you again.......Sharon

take the spark plug hold it against the cylinder of course with the wire still attached and crank over the engine and check to see if their's a spark. if not it's probably the cdi unit, it should still be under warrenty. if thats not it and you have a good spark then it's proably a valve adjustment or a bad head the best thing is to call raceway when you're next to the atv and they're be more than happy to help you out

Thanks, do you have a number to a raceway? could it be the rings??? and if not, how do you adjust the valves?? I am clueless...lol...thanks again......Sharon

usually it's a fuel deliverly or electrical problem, since we ruled out fuel problem, you did that by using the starter fluid, then its electrical or mechanical , next we need to rule out electrical, so you need to check for spark, if you rule that out, then we'll look at the valve adjustment, i won't think it's rings unless you're not using a aircleaner and the timing chains almost never break.

we have a good spark, and we have good compression and we have good fuel flow. how do I do a valve adjustment?? I am sorry to be such a bother, I am a woman with 4 kids and I need all the help I can get......Thanks again.

here's how to adjust the valves this came from a offical honda manual for the 50-110cc engines.
1. remove valve caps to access tappets, remove left side flywheel access covers, theirs 2 of them one on top with slot one on the side with slot.
2. rotate the flywheel (counterclockwise) until the "T" mark on the flywheel aligned with the index mark on the engine casting, this should be center of the top access hole. this is the top dead center (TDC) when the piston is at top of its stroke either at the compression or exhaust
if the rocker arms won't rock gently, then you are at the end of the exhaust stoke and both valves will be open, so rotate the engine a futher 360 deg until the engine is at (TDC) at the end of the compression stroke, now both rockers should move slighty
3. insert a .002 in (05mm) feeler gauge between the tappet adjusting screw and valve
if it too tight or too loose then adjust the gap by releasing the tappet adjuster lock nut by 1/4 -1/2 turn, turning the adjuster, retighting the lock nut and checking the gap again, you may need to do this several times to get it right as the gap changes while you tighten the locknut
4. repeat this for the other tappet
5. refit the tappet covers and the stator access covers
note: the top access hole is to check timing marks, the center access hole is to be use with a scocket to be able to rotate the engine,
this may look a little intimidating but its really reather simple .
