Default Eton-50 Running lousy

Hi Guys,

I bought my kids a 2005 eton 50 quad and it starts right up (1st kick) but as soon as u give it gas it boggs down (but dont stall). If u give it gas slowly it will move but when u get to 3/4 on the gas it boggs down. I put a new plug in, changed the oil, took carb apart and cleaned, checked all the wires for corrision and still nothing. It almost seems like the rev limitor is not working properly. Is there any way to check that? or do u guys have any ideas?

Sounds more like a fuel problem to me,possibly too lean.Make sure you are getting good flow from the tank, you can pull the line off of the carb to check...When I am checking for a lean condition I ride along at the point that it starts to bog and briefly turn the choke on.If it picks up you know for sure that its too lean...If its too rich the spark plug should be black.

Did you check the air cleaner? It sounds like the choke is on. My daughter's Eton runs just like you describe when the choke is on. If the air cleaner is dirty, it would have the same effect.

ijust checked it and it was clean...alittle damp though...i bought one of those no rev units off ebay and it wont even start. But as soon asi put the original back in it starts right up. Is thereand way to bypass the cdi unit? i should also add i am not sure but the oil light is on and he oil is full...I dont remeber if it was always on or not

You can't bypass the CDI its what sends the impulses to your coil to make it fire....If the problem was with the rev limiter you can hear it plain as day.The engine will get to the top rpm that it can reach and then you can hear it cutting out da,da,da,da in a perfect rythmn...Did you clean the spark arrestor in the muffler? They are known to clog up and kill power...Maybe take the carb apart again and make sure the jets are clean.

My daughters Eton 50 is a 2004. I tried the cdi boxes from ebay and it would not work at all. If you take the stock CDI box off and remove the rubber mounting hardware from it, sticking out of the solid state gel on the back of the device, there is a green wire. This comes out of the gel and back in. Just snip the wire and tape the ends. That removes the rev limiter.
