I have a 2001 raptor and i have the stock sprockets on the front and rear and was just wondering what is the right new set up i need for the frint and rear. I do alot of trail riding and get to silver lake sand dunes about 3 or 4 times a year was just wondering what the best set up would be thanks.

 

I went down 1 in the front on the shee and love it. Im goin to try to hit up silver lake this year. Where do u live?

 

I geared both my raptors down a tooth in the front. I like that for dunes and trails. In the dunes it gives you more power to the rear wheels at the same rpm (the raptor has nice low-end but not right off the bottom). On the trails I like it because it allows you to lug 2nd gear a little more and you are a little less likely to stall. It might take a little off your top speed but how often are you wide open in 5th gear hitting the rev limiter?

 

I too was wondering about changing the front sprocket. Im having a tough time with the front end wanting to wheelie on hill climbs in the woods and was trying to think of ways to help resolve this. What do you all think?

 

Are you poping the clutch to hard? (conciously or subconciously)

Is your rear shock nice and loose?

How tall are and and how much do you weigh?

I have a feeling since your raptor is stock the problem isnt that it has too much power, no offense but sounds like user error.

 

Im feathering the gas/clutch, way up on the bars as Im climbing, suspension is set stock, Im 6'4 240. The reason I was thinkin about different front sprocket is cause i wanted it to be geared closer like the yfz.. I know they are completely different quads, but its easier for me to keep rpms up on the yfz, where the rappy likes to bog.
