I have a 2001 grizzly with a K&N power kit and Warn 2000 winch, i saw a griz at a local dealer with the highlifter lift kit, 28 inch outlaws and some more , it looked pretty awesome, i am looking at getting the highlifter stage one or two kit, the silverback griz kit or whatever its called, how much does the stage one help with power and effect reliability, does adding the stage 2 make a noticable difference in either(stage 2 is the piston and cam) with the big tires like that would i still be able to keep up with my buddies on the old logging roads with long corners that i now kinds of slide around or would they be too bumpy , with big tires does the griz have enough power to spin the tires , how about with either of the kits or stock, i want to get the bigger tires and lift kit but i am not sure about the engine performance stuff, if i wont have enough power without them i would like to know before i get the tires so i can just get it all at once, thanks for any help

swen,
I don't have my Grizzly lifted, but I am running 27" 589's on it. It has tons of room for bigger tires. When these tires wear out I'm going with a set of 28", with no lift. I haven't really noticed any power loss off the bottom at all. It takes alittle longer to go to 60mph from 50mph then it used to. But so what, I don't really ride at those speeds all that often anyway. If you can get away without a lift, you'd be better off.

do you think i could get by without a lift kit or spacers? maybe i could try just the tires for a little without the lift kit, is the lift kit hard on the griz?

swen,
A lift kit will add stress to the drive train. The only reason to lift a quad is for larger tires, which will give you more ground clearence. If you can fit the tires that you want without a lift, then that is the way to do it. The other bad thing about a lift is that it will give you a higher center of gravity. If all you ride on is flat land it won't be so bad. But if you do any mountain riding, the higher center of gravity will be a bitch! I've heard from other guys on the forum that are running 28" tires without a lift. So if you don't need it, don't get it.

I think i will try them without the lift kit then, save some money, has anyone used the engine performance stuff from highlifter, like the pipe and clutch kit or the piston and cam package,

~swen~

I run 28" 589's on my Grizzly with no lift-kit. To date I have had no rubbing problems.

By the same token, I don't do any jumping, or hard & fast riding either. When I first got the machine, I pushed it a couple of times to see how fast I could get it. I am not interested in doing that any more. I have also removed the Sway-Bar. That may or may not have an affect.

Don't know if any of this helps or not.
