Default 2000 kodiak carb setup rough running

We had to rebuild the carb it was a mess sitting for 2 years. we counted the turns on the pilot scew 5 turns out someone said that sounded like a lot cant find info on what it should be at factory specs. It idols good smooth stronge hit it hard shoots off the line but go slow and bogs down at about 1/4 to 1/2 throttle almost stalls even cruiseing that position sputters and back fires. change all jets needle set good rebuild. any ideas or good web sites.top end seems good but first ride hard to know

Did you resolve this? I am having the same problems. My kodiak was sitting since last fall. Changed the battery and starting right. Idles great but when I throttle up it bogs down, sometimes backfires. Pulled the carb and cleaned the jets, etc. Also drained all the gas. So how did yours come out? Thanks

YAMAHA SPEC IS 2.5 ON THE MIXTURE SCREW.. I WOULD TAKE THE CARB TO A DEALER.. UNLESS YOU HAVE A VAT AND KNOW HOW TO TAKE IT COMPLETELY APART, YOUR PROBLY JUST SPINNING YOUR WHEELS

It turned out to be the main jet. I figured out that the tip can be unscrewed from from the stem. It was practically clogged shut. Sprayed some carb cleaner and used a bristle from a welding wire brush. Fired it up and volia. Sounds and runs fast.

Hey Wags can you show me where you cleaned the jets at? I have a 2003 kodiak 400 with the same problem. Can you find the section you did from here http://www.bikebandit.com/partsbandi..._id~845586.asp

Gonna have to pull the carb. I drained the old gas. Take plastic cover off tank. Take tank off. Loosen the 6mm nut for the choke cable and gentle pull out. Don't worry this goes back easy. I than disconnected the throttle cable on the handle bar. Loosen the hose clamps on the carb and remove. Put on clean rags and take off the bottom cover. Carefull not to damage gasket. There are 3 jets, the large one is what was clogged on mine. Loosen with screw driver and remove. The tip comes off by using a 6mm wrench and screw driver. The jet hole is easily visible. Shoot some carb cleaner and something small diameter. Reverse to put back in. I have the carb off 6 times before getting it right. Good luck.

After you get your carbs cleaned and quad is running good put some seafoam in your gas tank, this will help keep it running good it's a fuel cleaner/stabilizer that will clean the entire fuel system and the combustion chamber as well ! You can get the seafoam at O'Reallys,Auto Zone And Advance Auto Parts , i got mine at O'Reallys for $4.99 + Tax ; price may variy according to your location ! ............williebee
